The Oncologist
On behalf of the Senior Editors and the entire Editorial Board of The Oncologist, we are delighted to report that 2004 was another very successful year for your Journal. It was such an important year that I would like to share some of the highlights with you. After all, The Oncologist is designed with you, our reader, in mind. It is, therefore, fitting that we share this brief summary with you.
The Oncologist published six regular issues and six supplements totaling 998 pages of text in 2004. This reflected a 23% increase over 2003.
The Oncologists first-ever Impact Factor was a most respectable 3.962, placing the Journal within the top 10% of the worlds peer-reviewed cancer medicine journals. When one remembers that our primary audience is the busy practitioner who seldom publishes, this rating is all the more noteworthy.
The Oncologist is the firstand to date, the onlyjournal to provide category 1 CME credits approved and co-sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. Since 2001, physicians have been able to obtain AMA PRA category 1 credits through this online service free of any charge. This includes courses in Risk Management, which are often difficult to achieve in a busy clinical practice. The Oncologist currently offers more than 250 courses and over 5,500 category 1 CME hours were awarded in 2004. Please visit our state-of-the-art online CME at www.CME.TheOncologist.com.
In 2005, The Oncologists Tenth Anniversary year, we will introduce the following additional new features:
The Oncologist is proud of and grateful for the contributions of our colleagues in the commercial sector who help support the enormous costs of producing such a fine publication.
Simply put, we could not provide these powerful educational features free-of-any-charge, were it not for the vision of these companies.
The Journals continued growth and global prominence is testimony to the dedication and diligence of our Editorial Board. They insure the Journals future. And from my point of vantage, it is indeed a bright future.
Having reflected with pardonable pride on our past performance, we firmly renew our pledge to publish only the finest manuscripts that are of real relevance to those who are entrusted with the care of cancer patients. We are grateful for the time and diligence that generates these manuscripts and we are mindful of the dedication and effort it takes to conduct the vital peer-review process. It is this that enables The Oncologist to bring to you, our reader, the very best evidence-based intelligence that you may evaluate as you fulfill your obligations to your patients.
The Oncologist continues to improve ... sometimes because our critics have brought our attention to an unmet need or an inadvertent oversight or error. To them, we say, "thank you." We are equally grateful to those of you who have encouraged us to continue to address your needs. Your appreciation is deeply felt. We not only welcome, we encourage your suggestions as we renew our commitment to improve your Journal ... continually.
With our best wishes for health, happiness, and great fulfillment, I remain
Yours sincerely,
