I’d like to congratulate Dr. Rocconi and colleagues for their study of pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) consolidation therapy after platinum/paclitaxel-based chemotherapy for suboptimally debulked, advanced-stage epithelial ovarian cancer patients [1].

I read this paper with great interest and would like to bring the following issue to you rattention: With in the discussion section, the authors do a historical comparison of their results obtained with consolidation chemotherapy using PLD with the results of William McGuire’s groundbreaking Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) 111 study [2]. They specifically refer to the disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) rates reported from GOG 111 and their study. Rocconi et al. [1] calculated both the median DFS and OS from the date of completion of primary platinum/paclitaxel-based chemotherapy to the date of recurrence or death, respectively, whereas in GOG 111, DFS and OS were calculated from randomization to the date of recurrence or death, thus including at least an additional 15 weeks for delivering the first-line chemotherapy. Hence, I think it would have been appropriate if Rocconi et al. [1] either had added those 15 weeks of primary chemotherapy preceding the PLD consolidation chemotherapy into their calculation or, vice versa, had subtracted 15 weeks from the figures obtained for the GOG 111 study, although, admittedly, this adjustment would not change the results substantially.

I’d highly appreciate hearing your point of view on my comment.
