The Adult and Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Programs of Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, announce their clinical trials utilizing HLA Partially Mismatched Unrelated Umbilical Cord Blood Allogeneic Transplantation for patients with hematologic malignancies or marrow failure syndromes.

The first protocol is "A Pilot Study of Unrelated Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation in Children and Adults with Hematologic Malignancies." Its objectives are:

{blacktriangleup} To determine the rates of hematologic and immune reconstitution in adult and pediatric patients with high-risk hematologic malignancies, undergoing high-dose chemo-irradiation followed by unrelated umbilical cord blood transplantation.
{blacktriangleup} To determine the incidence of graft-versus-host disease in this setting.
{blacktriangleup} To describe the incidence of relapse post-UCB transplant.

The second protocol is "A Pilot Study of Unrelated Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation in Adults and Children with Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes or Inherited Metabolic or Hematologic Diseases." Its objectives are:

{blacktriangleup} To determine the rates of hematologic and immune reconstitution in adult and pediatric patients with marrow failure syndromes, undergoing high-dose chemotherapy followed by unrelated umbilical cord blood transplantation.
{blacktriangleup} To determine the incidence of graft-versus-host disease in this setting.
