Gunnar Birgegård, M.D.
Dr. Birgegård is Professor of Medicine at Uppsala University, Sweden. He has worked on erythropoiesis and iron, especially with regard to inflammation, and on erythropoietin pathophysiology, with an emphasis on polycythemia vera. He has studied erythropoietin treatment in autotransfusion and MDS, and is currently focusing on early response markers for epoetin treatment. Prof. Birgegård is the chairman of the Nordic MDS Study Group.
