2003 Vienna Symposium Forum on Optimal Management of Anemia At Optimizing Hemoglobin Levels and Beyond: Strength for Living and Meaningful Survival?, the 3rd International Educational Symposium on Advances in Cancer Anemia Management (Vienna, Austria; 2003), internationally recognized experts, clinicians from different specialties, cancer survivors, and scientists gathered to present the latest and most significant developments in the management of anemia in solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Several presentations focused on issues surrounding the quality of life for patients with cancer. Specific topics included the optimum dosing and efficacy of epoetins, the magnitude of the challenges cancer patients with anemia face, and the role of blood transfusions in managing cancer-associated anemia.
